Set for Plant Gifts Success

At Plant Gifts Sydney,  you can be assured that your purchase will be set for success. There are a few standard steps that we take to make sure that your gift plant will last for years to come.

Good quality premium potting mix

The first step we take is that we choose a good quality premium potting mix

The one we use has a wetting agent in it, which will help keep this plant hydrated particularly in the long hot summer months.

There are many different types of potting mix on the market to choose from, we would recommend choosing one that suits your plant variety . For example most plants will be happy with a Premium Potting Mix, however, using the plant specific potting mix will bring the best result. If you were to be potting orchids, use a premium potting mix as this will provide the best drainage and aeration, For succulents this would most likely have a higher content of sand and the succulent will require a greater level of drainage, and of course look out the the Rose mix, citrus Tree mix and Vegetable mix.

Perlite Moisture content and aeration

Perlite is a glass, mined from a volcano, that is extracted and processed. By using steamed to form small white pebbles, which can be used in a fine or coarse version of each other.

Using Perlite in the potting mix this will help improve the soil condition and all so maintain moisture and support aeration of the soil. Unlike bark based potting mixes that break down over time, Perlite doesn’t break down over time and by adding Perlite to your potted plants will keep your plants looking healthier and they will live longer.

How we pot our plants.

We start with a new clean pot, so as to not transfer any bacteria, or to cross contaminate. In the bottom of the pot add a small amount of potting soil and then add the volcanic rock Perlite to allow for moisture content and aeration adding more potting mix we then mix the Perlite together with the potting mix .

From there continue adding the potting mix.

Make a hole in the center of the pot to allow for the plant to set in with enough space for the roots to be comfortable.

Then top the potting mix up to the base of the plant. Be sure not to over fill the pot with potting mix, and leave a centimeter for the top of the pot allowing room for watering the plant without overflowing.
